About us

We believe in powerful stories. Stories that are memorable.

Stories that carry far beyond the final word.

8 Nineteen Communications is a boutique communications firm born out of our love of storytelling. We guide you and your business through the buildout of your story blueprint. Part architect, part creative genius and part strategist, we help clients tell their story in a meaningful and unforgettable way.

Attention is the oxygen of every story.  Attention breathes opportunity to inspire, motivate, educate and to engage and persuade the people you need to invest in, and grow your business. How do you get heard in the age of noise? By shifting the conversation and consideration from what you do, to why it matters.

Our boutique approach allows for a hands-on, personalized experience. We work with our clients to develop a storytelling strategy – whether it’s an investor pitch, industry trade show, product launch, social media narrative, or branded event experience, we help our clients meet their goals and objectives through bespoke programs that showcase your best brand story.

STORY ARCHITECTURE

WE TELL YOUR STORY, DIFFERENTLY

We dive deep into your story – we want to know about you, what your story is and why it’s important to you. Then we turn that upside down to create a communications blueprint tailored to who you really are, not someone you’re trying to be. Never again will you be lost for words or speak without saying anything.

From the Blog

Narratives > PowerPoint

PowerPoint banned from executive meetings??!! Amazon founder and CEO Jeff Bezos thinks so and we couldn’t agree more. Sure, there is a time and a place for PowerPoint but what resonates most with executives and those with influence? A story. A well told story with anecdotes, verbs, nouns, a beginning and an end – this is what our brains are wired for. Bullets don’t inspire. Stories do.

The Authentic Voice

Have you ever watched those painful brand stories that are so “corporate” it could be for any product? The desire to appeal to such a broad audience typically leads to an inauthentic voice that only speaks to the fear of one backlash tweet. Instead, be bold, be authentic, and be relatable. Also, do it well. Treat every video like it’s your Super Bowl half-time ad.

Experiences Over Events

Launching a new product? Have an event. Relocating your office? Have an event. Changed your hair color? Have an event.

With event marketing dominating most strategic communications plans, having an event to check off your “task list” is becoming the norm. What’s going to make you rise to the top? Authenticity, emotions and engagement.

The Best of Brand Storytelling

Balloons For Ben made our eyes well up (with dust, right?). #NuggsforCarter has us cheering for a high schooler and against Ellen as we watched in real-time on Twitter. An online content series for Harley Davidson turned into must-see TV in prime time. The common thread that weaves all of these amazing brand stories together? These stories built emotional resonance and at the same time, made global headlines.

Creative Collaborations

Romance novels and NASCAR. Pardon me? Yes, it’s true. Sometimes the craziest “let’s get fired” ideas come to fruition and become front page news. Literally. Creative collaborations can not only prove effective for audience sharing and increased profits but can make headline news and cause such a stir, that it impacts an entire male-dominated industry. And while we’re at it, let’s host a speed dating event at the Daytona 500.

Who We Are

Michelle Renaud
Founder & Principal

I love a good story. I love the feeling of my hair standing on its ends when the perfect story hits its climax. Unknowingly creeping to the edge of my seat as words unravel. I love taking that deep breath and exhaling to make sure it’s really happening. Equal parts strategist, creative genius and architect. I’m also pretty fond of tequila and tennis.

8 Nineteen Communications was born out of all of the things I love about PR – every brand and every business has a story, and telling it in a way that causes chills isn’t reserved just for an elite few.

My mind runs wild when it comes to collaborations, and I believe communications and PR don’t solely exist in a traditional box any longer. It’s not just about what you do, it’s about why it matters. Experiences are shaped by interactions. Influence dictates decisions.

With over 14 years of experience working with one of the worlds most recognized branded storytellers, I’ve created integrated communications campaigns that were recognized with top honours in both the Canadian and US markets. I’ve perfected my pitch with presidential media trainers, I’ve launched cross-country book tours for #1 Bestselling authors. I’ve designed trade show programs from literally the ground up, hosted corporate events at the nostalgic New York City Waldorf Astoria, and I’ve built brand collaborations with ABC’s The Bachelor to Kim Kardashian, and everyone in-between.

My favorite story that I’ve told? Marrying Harlequin romance novels and the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR). Crazy? Absolutely. Worth it? Just take a look at the front page of the New York Times hanging in my office.
